Novak offers excuse for his treason

Bob Novak has written a column purportedly explains why he published Valerie Plame's name and CIA affiliation in a manner so as to provide aid and comfort to the enemies of America.

Here is TalkLeft's deconstruction of Novak's defense of his treasonous activities.

This is Larry Johnson's response. Larry Johnson is ex-CIA and trained with Valerie Plame.

I think it likely that Bob Novak will never be tried and convicted for his actions. Face it. He performed them in behalf of someone at the White House who called him after they called Time Magazine and the New York Times, both of whom failed to do as bid. So the White House had to sink to the disreputable Novak. Much as Robert Bork was willing to fire the special Prosecutor for Richard Nixon after Elliot Richardson and his deputy quite rather than perform such a disreputable action, Bob Novak published the name of an active serving CIA officer and caused her cover organization to be dismantled for the express reason that the White House wanted to shut up her husband.

Novak knew exactly what he was doing. Now he is trying to spin and lie his way out of taking responsibility for his treason against America.

Media Matters for America Points out
"In the August 1 column, Novak stated that the "unanimous Senate Intelligence Committee report ... said that Wilson's wife 'suggested him for the trip.'" But in a July 15, 2004, column, Novak clearly recognized that the committee did not reach an official conclusion about how the CIA made the decision to hire Wilson:
Like Sherlock Holmes's dog that did not bark, the most remarkable aspect of last week's Senate Intelligence Committee report is what its Democratic members did not say. They did not dissent from the committee's findings that Iraq apparently asked about buying yellowcake uranium from Niger. They neither agreed to a conclusion that former diplomat Joseph Wilson was suggested for a mission to Niger by his CIA employee wife nor defended his statements to the contrary."
Novak is lying now, attempting to maintain his self-delusion that he has any integrity to defend. These two columns should have an interesting reaction on the jurors of his trial if (as should happen) he is ever tried for his dispicable treasonous behavior.

It really is disgusting that the Chicago Sun-Times and ABC TV still employ him, and that Creators Syndicate continues to distribute the publications of a known traitor like Novak.
