The Congressional Republicans are looking at the 2008 election and recognize that the biggest single problem they have sits in the White House as President. Think Progress has two articles, first on what they are saying publicly and second on what they are telling President Bush in his office.
The likely results of the 2008 election do not look at all pleasant to the Republicans. I heartily doubt that the Republicans see Bush's stubbornness and refusal to change course as being "steadfast" anymore.
