What brought us to the current stage in the Rove-Plame story?

Today we are waiting with bated breath to see when Karl Rove Rove will be indicted and what the charges will be. The entire Republican Party is panicked that Rove, the lynch-pin of their ascendancy, will be brought down.

The degree of their panic is clearly expressed in the massive and tightly coordinated fog of lies and misrepresentations the entire Republican Party are throwing into the media. They can't excuse Rove's treason, but with enough lies and confusion expressed so forcefully, they hope to make us forget what events have led to this danger to Rove and the Republicans.

Sidney Blumenthal has now published in Salon (day pass required) an excellent summary of the history over the last three years that has led to this. Read this and when the right wing politicians and echo-chamber media presents another charge or claim to confuse the issue, come back to this article to see what REALLY happened. This cuts through the confusion with an accurate description.

I am a moderate Democrat who has become convinced that Rove and Novak committed treason to America. Since Rove is the key single person who has brought the Republican Party to control of U.S. national politics, the Republicans must defend his treason.

Rove's treason grows out of the nastiness with which he practices politics, a nastiness that is a part of his personality. That same nastiness is also a strong theme throughout the Republican Party. It has been expressed in every political campaign Bush ever ran, it was expressed in the attack on Joe Wilson's wife as retaliation to his disagreement with then, and it is repeatedly expressed in their current defense of Rove.

These people live for their lies, nastiness, and the destruction of their enemies. They do not recognize honorable opponents, only enemies to be destroyed. They represent a sick but strong element of the American character. They need to be stopped before they destroy America along withthe rest of their enemies.

Blumenthall's article gives us a touchstone of truth with which we can cut through their fog of lies and misrepresentations. This article is well researched and is what reasonable knowledgeable people will agree accurately describes what has happened. The Republican Rove defenders have departed so far from the truth and become so nasty that they have simplified the confusion they are trying to create. Their tactics and lie make it very simple. Anyone who attacks this article supports Rove's treason to America.

The panicked Republicans will hate this article. By their lies, deceptions and misrepresentations they continue to clarify how truly dangerous they are to America. Those who attack Joe Wilson, Valerie Plame and the truth contained in this article are either traitors to America or they support and defend the treason committed by Rove and Novak.

It really is that simple.
