Why is the best Democratic candidate ignored by the media?

Greg Sargent at Talking Points Memo Horsed Mouth documents the strange blackout of coverage of the Democrat's best possible candidate for President. There is no rational explanation even attempted to explain the problem.

When there is no rational systemic explanation for such a clear aberration in coverage, the logical explanation becomes some kind of powerful conspiracy. Who's afraid of him that also has the power to limit coverage of his race for the nomination? The answer is more likely to be a small group than any single individual, of course.

I suspect that public financing of political campaigns would eliminate this kind of apparent conspiracy.

[I DON'T LIKE CONSPIRACY THEORIES! What is an alternative that passes the laugh test?]
