From the U.S. Constitution:
Amendment IThis is no less important today than it was two hundred years ago. Our freedom as individuals to speak out on any subject is immeasurably more important than your hurt feelings when we speak, and the government has no right to question what we think. Our thoughts are not to be subject to the government's control.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
