Proposed: the mainstream media agenda is driven by what blogs are discussing

This (by Mark Schmitt) is an interesting suggestion, one that deserves to be followed up on and investigated more over time. Mark says that the mainstream media is lost since they no longer dominate the media agenda, so they are beginning to follow the blogs. A major metric of success for a published mainstream story by AP is how much blog discussion it generates.

To me that suggests that there is no longer a mainstream media. If true, this has really most noticeably occurred in the last two or so years. If true, it will become highly noticeable with the results of the election in November. Let's watch to see if Hillary Clinton or Joe Lieberman pick up on the change, and if they do, what it does to their campaigns.
