McCain and the Republican problem with torture

Digby, discussing torture and waterboarding, makes a really good observation about the Republican Party:
McCain is a bloodthirsty right wing warmonger. But he's not an outright sadist. That is the range of what passes for morality among the GOP candidates.

And by the way, he's losing because of it.
That's the range of debate within the Republican Party. War - Good. Torture - Well, McCain is opposed to it, but the Republican Party as a whole is for it.

When did Americans reach a level so low that the only issue is what is the most extreme form of torture Americans should be authorized by the President to use.

Whatever happened to the House UnAmerican Activities Committee? This torture discussion among the Republicans is as UnAmerican as anything I have ever heard of.
