David Schuster shows reporters how the job should be done

Faoud Ajami wrote a recent Wall Street Journal OpEd comparing Scooter Libby to fallen U.S. Soldiers in Iraq. David Shuster interviews Ajami on hardball and shreds him in public for his ridiculous comparison and his attempt to defend the indefensible acts Libby performed.

When you go watch it at Crooks and Liars, notice how Shuster makes the point that Armitage was told about Valerie Plame by Libby, who also told a number of other people including reporters. Shuster also shreds the stupid lie Ajami told about there being no underlying crime. These are two of the biggest flaws that he bashed Ajami with, but there are others. Shuster, unlike most TV reporters, did his homework. Then when Ajami tried to bluster and filibuster to use up time, Shuster cut him off and brought him up sharp like a good horse rider reining-in an attempted runaway horse. It took facts and an unwillingness to defer to the Washington insider, Ajami.

We need a lot more reporters like Shuster. There just might be some hope for the American Republic.
