Efficient Hybrid Vehicle Technology

Here is a really neat idea.

Turn the wheels of a bus into little individual electric motors turned inside out. Power them by batteries, and continually recharge the batteries with a small diesel-powered generator that constantly runs at its most efficient speed.

By running constantly at its most efficient speed, the diesel engine will put out minimal pollution while getting the best possible diesel mileage. Since the electric motors speed up smoothly at essentially constant torque, no transmission is needed. In fact, no drive shaft either. That is a lot of weight saving.

It uses existing technology and is being tested right now.

OPEC will hate it. [grin]
