Bremer - U.S. failed to anticipate insurgency in Iraq

Surprise, surprise!

Paul Bremer, head of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq for a year, says the U.S. did not anticipate the insurgency.

Reuters has the story.

No surprise here. This is the voluntary war started by Republicans who do not believe in a significant role for government in society. Ask them what the first responsibility of government is and they will hem and haw and perhaps say to defend the nation militarily.

That's way too narrow. The first role of government is to provide stability in which people can work and safely rear their children.

When one nation decapitates the government of another then disbands that government someone needs to provide that stability function. It was failure to realize this that led to the insurgency.

That means that Bush and Bremer created the insurgency.
