Abramoff scandal - how far can Dept. of Justice go?

Josh Marshall has posted a rather profound letter he received that points out the distinction between the Justice System and the Political System as it applies to the Abramoff Matter. It is must reading.

Addendum
Apparently the consensus is that the Abscam investigation was a set of FBI stings, and so ran the risk of inducing Congresspersons to commit crimes they otherwise would not have committed. [Yeah. Right.]

In any case, the current Abramoff - Cunningham - DeLay - etc. is a different matter. These are crimes already committed, merely being exposed by investigation.

I'll buy the distinction, but I can't help but suspect that the Justice Department will be hesitant to investigate too far partly for fear of being accused of sabotaging the Congress.
