Frankly I didn't hear anything new from either candidate. But Tom Brokaw only interrupted Obama. It was totally clear that Brokaw is in the tank for McCain when, at the end of the debate, Brokaw thanked McCain and ignored Obama.
I do think that Brokaw asked a stupid "gotcha" question early on when he asked both candidates who they would appoint as Secretary of the Treasury. No sensible politician is going to answer that question before the election is over and the candidates have been vetted. So the result is that both candidates avoided a direct answer to the question. They both looked evasive as a result. The reason the question is stupid is that the evasive answer is the only possible answer and Brokaw knows that.
McCain's efforts to belittle Obama were fewer than during the first debate, but McCain's dismissive "That one" with a wave at Obama was an effort to belittle Obama but had only the effect of belittling McCain.
I'll be interested to see what the polls say about who won.
