Tim Griffin, the Republican opposition researcher who was appointed as Arkansas U.S. attorney, apparently has only been involved in three trials in his career. This is according to Digby.
It's pretty obvious that Gonzales never intended to put him up to the Senate for confirmation. He would never be approved.
