Some of the problems caused by a politicized federal civil service

People who got their job because they were Bush loyalists rather than experts at what they do have filled the federal civil service from top to bottom. Monica Goodling, Rachal Paulose, and ex-FEMA Director Michael Brown are only a few of the more obvious examples at the top. But they were political appointees and will be easily to replace. What about the same type of people who have been filling the protected civil service positions for the last six years? These are the ones chosen for loyalty to Bush rather than for competence.

Go read Kagro-X at the Next Hurrah for examples, and drift down to the comments for ideas on how to handle the problem.

One thing to think about. Since the Department of Homeland Security has no organized employee unions or civil service protections then there will be no problem replacing incompetent Bush Loyalist employees.
