Bush legacy depends on result of Iraq war; per Bill Buckley

Bill Buckley says that the G. W. Bush legacy depends entirely on the outcome of the war in Iraq and, Buckley continues, that war has failed.

Buckley says further that 'Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld ... [is] "a failed executor" of the war. And finally Buckely states that Vice President Dick Cheney "was flatly misled,"..."He believed the business about the weapons of mass destruction." '[See Bloomberg.com]

Well, when the father of the modern conservative movement announces such a judgment on one of his own, who am I to disagree?

Except Dick Cheney. He may have been initially misled, but then he became convinced that he was correct. As a result he was never willing to listen to or investigate the opposite side of the argument. New facts did not matter since his mind was made up already. It is a common fault of failed CEOs. Buckley is trying to exonerate Cheney for decisions for which Cheney himself was at fault.
