Religious Books -- Not Fundamentalist!

The Fundamentalist Xtians should not be allowed to hijack the language of Christianity. They are at least as much heretics to Christianity as the Arians and Gnostics of early Christian days.

Biblical inerrancy is not possible.

The books both above and below show the limitations of language and the impossibility of Biblical Inerrancy.

How can language be misused? Using General Semantics, this book was Written to explain Nazi propaganda and still used as a textbook

Books - Popular Math, Post Enlightenment & Science

This book explains why the above books on Christian Fundamentalism are politically important in America today.

Modern Society measures risk & predicts possible futures. The book below is a higly readable history of insurance, statistics and modern financial instruments.

Compare this to religion, in which it is presumed that the perfect society was known in the past and all that is necessary to do is to return to that perfect society.

Fascinating, highly readable and fun book on modern mathematics and its limitations. If you are interested in ideas, this is your book!

This is a collection of Hofstader's Scientific American articles. Again, a very fascinationg and highly readable book, requiring no mathematical background. (Buy it used - it is one of the books that will keep disappearing.)

Older, very fascinating book on mathematical ideas. Did you know there are three kinds of infinity?

Bush's efforts to destroy Social Security weak
Bush has been working very hard to convert his win in the Presidential election 2004 into the elimination of Social Security. It does not seem to be working. Ruy Teixiera reports on current polls that say it isn't working.

His conclusion from the recent polls is : no matter whether Bush’s plan is referred to with his preferred language or with that preferred by Democrats, the result is still opposition. This suggests the degree to which Bush’s persuasive efforts are hitting a brick wall.

The Bush people aren't stupid. I flipped through all four major news shows Sunday morning, and everyone of them started with an administration flack pushing Social Security privatization.

They'll keep pushing until they get what they want, or until they are decisively defeated. Since they won't be decisively defeated until they recognize that they are, and they firmly believe that they win by outlasting their opposition, I am not at all sure what it will take to convince them they are defeated.

In fact, I am concerned that they may be correct. Even if they are wrong, if they are willing to outlast their opposition (us) and keep going, can they still win even if they are wrong?

I am willing to continue to oppose them because they are wrong. It is just that the ultimate issue is still in doubt even though they ARE wrong. Fortunately, a lot of us are continuoing to oppose them.

Help me Dude, I think I'm lost..... I was searching for Elvis and somehow ended up in your blog, but you know I'm sure I saw him in a car lot yesterday, which is really strange because the last time I saw him was in the supermarket. No honest really, he was right there in front of me, next to the steaks singing "Love me Tender". He said to me (his lip was only slightly curled) "Boy, you need to get yourself a San Diego cosmetic surgery doctor ,to fit into those blue suede shoes of yours. But Elvis said in the Ghetto nobody can afford a San Diego plastic surgery doctor. Dude I'm All Shook Up said Elvis. I think I'll have me another cheeseburger. Then I'm gonna go round and see Michael Jackson and we're gonna watch a waaaay cool make-over show featuring some Tijuana dentists on the TV in the back of my Hummer. And then he just walked out of the supermarket singing. . . "You give me love and consolation,
You give me strength to carry on " Strange day or what? :-)
