Romney is running to become Liar-in_Chief
Rachel Maddow has called Romney out. Romney is not just a flip-flopper. He is a liar, who when called on his lies, then lies about them. Mitt Romney cannot be trusted. Nothing he says seems to be based on anything other than whether it will fool someone into giving him something he, personally, wants.

The Great Recession and the Failed Rule of Law
These two segments of the Rachel Maddow show discuss the general American feeling that there is no longer a rule of law here in which everyone, from the President, from CEO's and from the wealthiest Americans, are held to the same standards of law as the rest of us are.
Here Rachel Maddow interviews Glenn Greenwald about his new book "With Liberty and Justice forall Some."
As Francis Fukuyama makes very clear in his new book The Origins of Political Order one of the key elements of modern states and nations is the legitimacy that is provided by the assurance that the Rule of Law applies to everyone, not just to the peons. Today the Occupy Wall Street movement is at its core a reaction to the belief that there is one set of laws for the 99% and another for the top 1%.
The core element of legitimacy of the American government has been the belief that the rule of law has applied to Americans. The fact is the financial collapse of 2008 and the lack of any investigation into the collapse and application of blame to the clearly guilty has made it clear that neither the American elites nor the American government actually operate under the rule of law any more. This may well be the most significant reason for the poor ratings currently given to Congress.
Unless the rule of law is brought back and the parties who caused the collapse of the economy are investigated and punished there is a strong likelihood that no party is going to be able to regain and keep control of the American federal government for any period of time. Blame and punishment is going to be more important to the survival of American institutions than the false stability provided by ignoring wrong-doing.
It should also be very clear that the conservative movement and the wealthy elites who created and funded it are directly responsible for the collapse of the American economy.

Maddow provides rare moment of Sunday morning Sanity
For a moment there was a rare moment of sanity and honesty on the Sunday morning shows. Where did the debt crisis come from? It was NOT a crisis about America's likelihood of financial default. It was a made-up crisis created by the Republican extremists in the House of Representatives - a made up crisis intended to create a hostage situation so that the extremists could get their self-centered irrational agenda passed because otherwise, no sane legislator would have given it a moment's notice.

The media is no longer a benefit to democracy
Rachel Maddow gets most of it - and Cenk Uygar describes what is going on in the media. It's more than just what Rachel maddow describes as IOKIYAR (It's OK If You Are Republican.) It's what George Lakoff writes about in his book The Political Mind: Why Your can't understand the 21st-century American Politics with and 18th-Century Brain.
George Lakoff describes how The brain deals with frames and scenarios. The memory is able to take in things that fit an existing frame in the brain, but things that do not fit an existing frame are discarded. So how are facts that don't fit an existing frame discarded?
That's older psychology. The term Cognitive Dissonance describes it. My previous post Global Warming threatens the very sense of self of conservatives so they reject the science reflexively describes how cognitive dissonance works for people to avoid facts that challenge core beliefs which make up their selves.
This is psychology that has been public long enough to be rather well known. What George Lakoff is writing about is how cognitive dissonance actually works in the brain and how the right wing is using that knowledge to manipulate the American voting public.
Go read the Lakoff book! What is happening in modern American politics is that the conservatives who want power and money are using the ways the human brain works to move to dominate the American voting public. The successful rescue of the American auto industry
This clip is from last night's Rachel Maddow Show where Rachel Maddow and Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson point to the success of the Obama rescue of the American Automobile Industry and to the nay-sayers who still idiotically claim it was a failure. Also there is a discussion of the disaster that the Republican House is attempting to enforce on the American economy with their ridiculous and ignorant budget cuts.

The danger of "The Family" at the heart of American politics
This is the segment from the Rachel Maddow Show in which she interviews Jeff Sharlet, the author of the book The Family which describes the secretive christian fundamentalist group that controls so many Washington politicians.

The false equivalency of threatening violence and being sarcastic
Rachel Maddow interviewed David Frum on her show; Frum complained about the low level of political discourse during the current election season blaming both Republicans and Democrats. Rachel Maddow pinned him down and forced him to make clear what he was talking about.
Over at Hullabaloo Tristero has posted both the video of the interview and his discussion and dissection of what was said. It is quite fascinating, something that should be reviewed repeatedly and learned from.
David Frum is a master rhetorician. The video shows David Frum at his best, making incendiary accusations and then in pulling every rhetorical trick in the book avoiding being pinned down and taking responsibility for what he says. It also shows Rachel Maddow carefully avoiding the many rhetorical and emotional traps Frum sets and turning them back against him. Tristero then carefully explains what happened. I can't add to what Tristero wrote.
This video and Tristero's explanation of what was happening in it is one of the most educational things I have seen in a long time. Go read it and watch the video.
