Laura Rozen reports that the Senate Judiciary Committee is requiring both former White House Counsel Harriet Meirs and Karl Rove's former White House aide Sarah Taylor to appear before the Senate today. Since President Bush has declared that they cannot testify because of "Executive Privilege", the Senators will require both to declare the privilege.
This could lead to an interesting confrontation between the Senate and the White House. Stay tuned.

Subpoenas sent to White House aides
The House Judiciary Committee issued the subpoena to former White House counsel Harriet Miers, and the Senate Judiciary Committee issued the subpoena to former top Karl Rove aide Sara Taylor. Think Progress provides the details.
Not if America is to continue as something resembling a democratic nation it sure doesn't.
CNN’s legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin reports, “The White House has made clear it will cite executive privilege for conversations that took place within the White House on the U.S. attorney matter, and if the people with those conversations happen to have subsequently left the White House, that doesn’t matter. They’re still going to cite executive privilege, and these people are not going to be allowed to testify anytime soon, it appears, if the White House remains as it has been. … Even if they want to testify.”This should be very interesting. Does Executive Privilege, something not even mentioned in the Constitution, extend this far?
