Maybe the election happened a month or so too soon

Americans are beginning to understand what the Republican party really means for the nation.
PRINCETON, NJ -- The Republican Party's image has gone from bad to worse over the past month, as only 34% of Americans in a Nov. 13-16 Gallup Poll say they have a favorable view of the party, down from 40% in mid-October. The 61% now holding an unfavorable view of the GOP is the highest Gallup has recorded for that party since the measure was established in 1992.

By contrast, the public's views of the Democratic Party remain as positive after the election as they were just prior to it. More than half of Americans, 55%, currently hold a favorable view of the Democratic Party and only 39% an unfavorable view, highly typical of views toward the Democrats all year.
As the surviving Republican extremists in Congress do their best to obstruct every effort to help the nation get through the economic catastrophe they created with their Reagan Revolution market fundamentalism policies, is the drop in their approval ratings any surprise?

If retiring Republican Congressman Tom Davis thought the Republican brand was as bad as tainted dog food before the election, what does he think it is now? Let's hope that that the public understanding of the nature of conservative Republicans lasts for four decades or more as it did after they lost control of the House of Representatives the last time in 1954.

If you want to understand what is wrong with the conservative Republican Party, go read this article about the two tribes in America by Digby. Lincoln described the petulant refusal of conservative Southerns to be convinced that those who disagreed with them could compromise and let them alone to live in their error. This was, and remains today, a major characteristic of Southern American conservatives.
